Soapstone cookware offers several benefits that make it a favorite among cooks: it heats food integrally—not just through the bottom of the pan —and stays hot for longer once heated, keeping food warm and saving energy; it’s both natural (no harmful substances that can be released into food) and non-stick (less or no oil is needed), providing a healthy alternative to Teflon. Lastly, soapstone naturally repels humidity, which is helpful for salt and spice storage. Soapstone kitchenware are durable objects that keep their features and properties over time. Traditionally used by master chefs, these elegant and useful cooking tools are a must for every gourmet.
Before you start cooking, soapstone cookware must be properly prepared. This treatment is carried out only in the beginning and does not need to be repeated. It basically consists in oiling the pan both on the outside and the inside and heat it for a couple of hours. This will temper the stone and condition it for its first use on the flame, while coating its surface. Once the treatment has been completed, the stone will change its hue from grey to charcoal black, still showing the natural streaked patterns of the stone.
Established in 1991, Cookstone is an industrial artisan company that focuses on quality and creativity rather than mass production. Besides perfecting the classic copper handles line, Cookstone reinvented tradition by applying new technical solutions. Our patented system for fixing any industrially-made handle directly to the stone without piercing it enables us to create and manufacture exclusive designs. Our soapstone kitchenware is eco-friendly and helps preserving the environment, since its raw material is completely recycled. We buy from mining companies the remnants of block-cutting, selecting the best cuts right in the quarry. In this way we don’t produce environmental waste. Our cookware is ideal for health food also: scientifically known as steatite, soapstone is a totally natural material which doesn’t release any residual substance in the food. By cooking it slowly and integrally, soapstone allows food to retain all its organic properties, while enhancing its taste and texture.
Great for making the famous Chicago-style deep dish pizza, the Griddle Plus can be used either on the stovetop as a griddle for meat or vegetables - thanks to it's extra thick base - or in the oven for any kind of tarts, cakes, or even a lasagna. Soapstone has the ability to retain heat twice as long as traditional cookware, and will keep your meal warm at the table to the last bite. The wide copper handles help serving your recipes from the oven straight to your table in an easy and elegant way.
