The Aves Brass Birds Trio comes in three different sizes and they differ from one another. This accentuates the statement that there is something unique in the general. The clean lines of the bird stand in perfect contrast to the solid brass that the birds are made of.
The brass has been treated in such a way so it does not oxidize. The material will stand immutable and in that way it emphasizes the timeless idiom of AVES.
Co Derr was born in 1921. He graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam where he was trained by Le Corbusier. In the course of his illustrious career, Co Derr has received many awards. Among others he participated in the Olympic Games Art Exhibition in London in 1948 and was awarded an Olympic medal for his contribution. His works are featured in several art museums including MoMA in New York.
AVES is the Latin word for birds. It is also the name of the family of brass birds created by Dutch architect and artist Co Derr. Co Derr was very keen on finding the essential shapes that blend with his surroundings. He was particularly concerned about finding the essentials of the motive bird, and he spent his entire career simplifying the shape of the Aves Brass Birds Trio until he reached a form, that could be perceived as the essence of a bird. In that way, the Aves Brass Birds Trio stands as a testimony of the eternal essential shapes that lie behind timeless designs.
