why this product

As writing becomes less and less of a part of our daily lives, it is important for the objects we draw and write with to have distinction. Schon DSGN pens are unique in their architecture and design, providing a unique experience of threading off the cap and threading it on the back. This ritual is fun, precise, and allows you to interact with the object more than you would a traditional pen. Having a pen that can be carried deep in your pocket unobtrusively but is quickly easy to use and iconic will create a meaningful writing experience that you never knew you were lacking.

use & care

These pens will develop a patina over time which is very dependent on how you store the pen and what you store it with. For instance, the Polished aluminum will develop a nice worn-in feel over time if you carry it with your steel and brass keys. If you want to preserve the polished look, be sure to carry the pens in their cases or separate from other metal objects. The brass and bronze pens especially darken over time, and the colors will settle in to a rich dark brass or bronze look.

production & design

These pens are manufactured locally with domestically sourced ink. Forming a close relationship with local vendors allows Ian to ensure that all materials are ethically and environmentally responsible. Schon DSGN is proud to offer a USA-made product with as much local manufacturing as possible.

This is Ian Schon's interpretation of an everyday writing pen, designed to be a compact, dependable addition to your everyday carry. Made from a variety of metals all manufactured right outside of Boston, MA, each pen goes through a unique finishing process depending on the material and desired look. The pen features a brass slotted set screw, cut by one of the oldest screw manufacturers in Massachusetts, that can be removed to replace the ink.
