This black walnut cutting board is a standard for the well-prepared kitchen. Use it to chop vegetables, slice cheeses or pare fruit. The board has two sides, so the smoth surface can double as a serving platter. Transporting it to the table is made easy through two handle grooves on either side.
Wash the board with warm soapy water, and wipe it down right away. Do not place in dishwasher.
The board is finished with a proprietary, food-safe oil. For maintenance, you can wipe down the board with a dab of corn oil on a paper towel whenever it starts to look dry or pale. This can be done once every few weeks or as often as needed to preserve the wood's luster.
These cutting boards were designed and made by a Scottish engineer who fell in love with Vermont and made it his home. A longtime wood hobbyist, he made his first cutting board in 1967, and the piece still gets daily use in his kitchen to this very day.
Working as an independent craftsman for a number of years, the maker gradually fine-tuned the techniques and construction of wooden bowl styles, wooden tableware and other kitchenware items. With a growing reputation and increasing sales, he expanded his solo operation to open a factory. He currently employs eight full-time and four part-time craftsmen. Some of them have been with him for over 25 years, woodturning and witnessing the growth of this small business.
