Founded in 1884, the Swedish lighting company that crafts these lamps is dedicated to creating lighting fixtures that are faithful to the designs and manufacturing processes of the 1880s through the 1930s. Their products are made with original machines from the turn of the century.
To light the lamp, remove the glass cylinder and set it aside. Unscrew the top of the lamp. Carefully pour kerosene or lighter oil into the base. For best results, use high-quality kerosene. Replace the top of the lamp and securely screw it into base. The height of the wick can be adjusted slightly by spinning the knob on the front of the lamp. When the wick has absorbed the kerosense, it can be lit. Replace the glass cylinder over the flame.
Always keep kerosene in the oil vessel and keep the cloth wick soaked with kerosene at all times, even when not in use. If a moist wick is maintained, your lamp, including its wick, should last a lifetime (the wick doesn’t burn; only the kerosene).
It's important to keep the wick just above the edge of the brass burner. If you put the wick too high, the flame will reach an undesired height. This will create soot in the glass tube that will burn the wick. The edges of the wick can also be trimmed with scissors.
The lamp can be cleaned by using a damp cloth. The glass cylinder can be washed in water and a mild detergent. The brass is not varnished and should only be polished with brass cleaner.
Based in Karlskrona in the southern tip of Sweden, the lighting company behind these lamps has been in operation since 1884. Their entire catalogue of products is made with original machinery that has been with the company since its founding. Only 12 workers are involved in the manufacturing of their products, and no computerized or automated machines are used.
This portable nickel table lamp is designed after the handheld candlesticks and kerosene lamps of the late 19th-century, before the use of electricity. The nickel is polished to a lustrous sheen while a glass tube protects the flat cotton wick and flame when lit.
