Award-winning designer Monica Förster designed these shiny planters and entrusted the fabrication to a 400-year-old foundry in Sweden. The foundry uses a process called metal spinning, in which large sheets of brass are spun at high speed and shaped into the final object. This unique process allows a perfect replica of traditional terra cotta pot to be formed, right down to the slight incline at the base.
Use a mild metal polish and a soft cloth to clean the pot. If resting the pot on delicate surfaces, consider placing a tray or other protective barrier underneath it. Extended exposure to water may cause tarnishing, which does not affect the integrity of the planter but adds a unique patina.
In 1607, King Karl IX of Sweden of Sweden created the Skultuna brass foundry to make ornate chandeliers for the Swedish crown. Because brass is made from copper and zinc, the foundry is strategically situated near copper mines about 75 miles west of Stockholm. Chandelier production continues at Skultuna today, and the foundry also collaborates with renowned contemporary product designers to create extraordinary brass objects—such as these planters.
