why this product

Made in Norway, these toys are crafted from solid beechwood, which is sourced from an FSC-certified supplier. While some parts are hand-turned and sanded by experienced wood workers, other components are shaped using advanced, robotic mills.  ??To comply with safety standards, the forms are clean, simple and bold, yet maintain a distinct aesthetic. The objects have no other function than to provide fun and family games to pass down for generations to come - they're toys afterall! The pieces also turn a desk, tabletop or windowsill into a vast stretch of ocean, creating a playful space. In other words, both kids and adults will enjoy the set of toys to spark their imagination.

use & care

The unfinished beechwood will change color over time, turning slightly darker and warmer in tone. To keep the originial look of the wood, try not to expose to sun for long periods of time. (UV radiation will cause slight fading to the wood.) Apply a damp cloth to wipe the toy clean of stains or water spills. Stains can also be removed with very fine sanding paper on the unfinished wood. The rounded shapes and sturdy dimensions mean that the toys can last for generations to come. With use and time, the unfinished wood develops a unique patina.

production & design

In 2012, this Norwegian design company was commisioned to create a product to reflect the Norwegian and Scandinavian identity. The result was a set of wooden toys depicting an oil rig with a tanker and a helicopter. A year later, the Shipping and Archipelago sets were added to the collection, as this company created a new installation for the London Design Festival. After meeting a Slovakian engineer, who ran a family business specializing in milling, turning and processing small wooden objects, the company decided to launch these toys as part of a special series. Each toy is designed from 100% solid beechwood, hand-turned and sanded by experienced wood workers.
