These planters were inspired by the Finnish tradition of himmeli, handcrafted hanging mobiles made of straw for the Christmas season. In Swedish and German, himmel means sky or heaven, and himmeli are typically made to usher in the holiday spirit, or, create a festive mood at any time of the year.
Formed from pure metals, each planter is created one at a time, and the hand-turned process produces a unique exterior. Sheets of metal are turned slowly on a lathe until a dome is formed. The chains of the planter are finished with brass jump rings at the end for easy installation onto the ceiling or a wall hook.
The pure, uncoated metals of these planters will develop a unique patina over time. If you desire to restore its original sheen, a brass polish may be used.
Trained in art, fashion and architecture, Ashira Israel seeks to create products at the intersection of all of her interests. Her catalogue of products, including planters, tableware and other home accessories, are meant to be artful yet functional. The simple geometry of her designs allows the materials, including concrete, brass, copper and wood, to naturally shine through.
