Spruce up your work, desert or hiking boots with these heavy-duty, handmade shoelaces for a unique, utilitarian look. The laces can also be used in dress shoes for a rustic yet refined appearance. The leather is vegetable-tanned, which is the oldest historical method for tanning leather and the process that preserves the animal hide, preventing it from hardening over time. The full grain leather has not been sanded, buffed, or corrected in any way to remove or cover up imperfections, instead celebrating the natural qualities of the hide. To finish the laces, the edges of the leather are softened with hand-waxing.
No special care is required for these durable laces.
Leather craftsman Bryan Hessler got his start in 2003 when he was inspired to create a handsewn purse for his girlfriend. Leatherworking was in his blood, as his mother made purses and belts for herself in the 1970s, which are still being passed on within the family. Bryan’s initial dabbling grew until he was a regular fixture at craft fairs, even finding retailers in Japan to carry his handmade goods. All of Bryan’s products are cut, sewn and assembled by hand in California, and his products can be found across the U.S. as well as in select boutiques in Japan and Korea.
