Take your morning paper and lend it new life by turning it into a paper pot for delicate seedlings and young transplants. The newspaper will naturally degrade into the potting soil, and it is an alternative to unsightly and harmful plastic containers. An accompanying tube stores your extra paper pots to keep at the ready.
Depending on the seed used and its germination period, make your paper pots a few weeks before planting outside. You can plant newspaper directly in the soil, after the last frost warning of the season has passed. We prefer using vegetable-dye newspaper print to avoid continimating the plant or soil in any way.
1- Cut newspaper into strips at least 6 ½ inches x 15 inches long or more. Fold the paper in two and place against the handle press with the folded seam closer to your hand. (That will create a neater rim of the pot.)
2- Keep a tight, firm grip of the paper on the cyclinder until rolling is complete. Fold all four corners down, then press into base to "seal" bottom.
3- Slide pot off handle and fill ¾ with soil. Add one seed per pot, then a thin layer of soil on top. Plant outside once last frost warning has passed.

Do not soak the press in water, simply wipe clean after use. Condition by rubbing linseed oil into wood with a soft cloth.
In 1981, John Buckland began creating gardening and home goods out of a shed in his family home using a wood lathe and hand tools. The demand for products increased and John eventually moved the business to an old corn and wood mill. Most of their products are now turned by machine in order to achieve uniformity, while finishing details continue to be done by hand for quality control. The business is run by John, his wife and their five sons.
An alternative to plastic trays and pots, our wood paper press forms old newspaper into biodegradable plant pots. Made in England by a family business using sustainable beech wood with an oiled finish. Seeds not included.
