These soft-soled moccasins, created by a leather goods company founded in 1927, were originally made with hunting in mind, as they allow you to feel the ground and anticipate any loud branches breaking underfoot. The moccasins are most often sold to Native Americans for ceremonial use, nature & animal photographers, hunters and bird watchers. They also make incredibly comfortable house slippers. The wool eco-felt lining – a design detail exclusive to Kaufmann Mercantile – will keep your toes warm while also providing light foot support.
The American sourced leather is mineral tanned using chromium sulfate and other salts of chromium. Chrome-tanning is faster than vegetable-tanning (one day, as opposed to two months), and produces leather that is softer and more pliable, yet also holds its shape.
In 1927, a pair of brothers started a leather goods company in Centralia, Washington, specializing in gloves for work, dress, driving and riding. The company continues to create leather goods out of the very same building where the brothers first set up shop. About six employees work on the cutting, sewing and pressing of the moccasins. Their materials are sourced only from American suppliers.
