Henry P. Glass invented the first steel hairpin furniture leg in 1941 against the backdrop of World War II, when the scarcity of materials demanded new innovations in design. The triangular bases, which echoed the silhouette of a lady’s hairpin, utilized attenuated steel wire while keeping the strength of traditional, solid legs.
These iron hairpin legs, designed in New York and hand-welded in a co-op in Java, Indonesia, stay true to the original efficiency of design and resources by using recycled metals. They may be used as chair bases, to create a table of your own design, or wired and installed as a pendant or wall lamp.
These recycled iron bases require no special care. Wipe down with your favorite mild household cleaner when necessary.
