These wine glasses are designed and blown by Brooklyn glassblower Andrew Hughes. Each glass is individually made, and every thumb imprint is carefully inscribed. Andrew gathers up a bit of clear glass from the furnace and blows a bubble, carefully shaping it with his blowpipe. He drops the bubble in a cherry wood mold, where it takes its final shape. He later uses a propane torch to create the thumb indentation.
Do not place in dishwasher. Hand wash to preserve the longevity of the piece.
Glassblower Andrew Hughes created these unique glass pieces especially for Kaufmann Mercantile. Armed with a degree in glass from Rhode Island School of Design, Andrew began his career as a sculptor’s assistant, finding time on the side to create glass pieces for himself and his friends. Orders started coming in. To keep up with the demand, he became a full-time glassblower and now works out of a studio in Brooklyn, New York.
