The company that produces these collar stays uses dense cattle shinbone, which has the thickest outer layer. More resilient than horn, bone has a honeycomb structure that makes it rigid yet lightweight. It looks similar to ivory but weighs less and is usually not as white in color. Bone feels pleasantly soft and warm to the touch. When polished, it usually has what appears to be a lightly scratched surface; these are the exposed “tunnels” that permeate the bone.
Made with the shinbone of domestic cattle from China, our collar stays are a by-product of the meat industry and therefore 100% recycled.
