Deerskin and 100% merino wool are about the two softest materials you could use to make a pair of everyday men's gloves, without doing away with masculinity. For 85 years, two brothers have made gloves way out in Centralia, Washington, for frontiersmen in all means of weather and wear. Today they are one of the last glove-makers left in the United States, using fine deer skins only from the western United States, as well as all their elk, bison and cowhide. The deerskin glove is more comfortable than cowhide, and a good option for someone who cares about dexterity as well as comfort. Deerskin's natural fibers trap air inside, making the leather feel lighter. But it's also softer and more supple, molding and contouring to your hand for a characteristic fit. The gloves are vat-dyed using natural dyes, a method that ensures the color will stay put. Last but not least, the lining of these gloves, made of the ultra fine fibers of merino wool, is one of the warmest wools available, one grade of softness lower than cashmere in the spectrum of wool.
Deerskin is easy to care for. It will stay soft even after repeatedly getting wet and dry. Because of this it is not necessary to treat it with protection from water. Many leather protectors will darken the leather and/or affect the breathability of the deerskin. The best thing to do is to test a leather care product first to ensure it does what you want it to. Most soiled spots, if they occur on the gloves, can be removed by gently hand washing using a mild soap and water. You should always let the leather dry naturally. For grease spots, apply flour or baby powder and let sit 24 hours to absorb grease before brushing off. Repeat if necessary.
Two brothers who started this glove company—one of the last remaining in the US—are now based out of Centralia, Washington, where they have been making gloves for 85 years. Using only high quality bison, goatskin, deerskin, elk skin, and other leathers to make their distinctive gloves and moccasins, the gloves are fit for any occasion: riding, driving, work, and dress.
