At the end of the 18th-century in Paris, French inventor Nicolas Appert merged comestibles and chemistry to create a method of preserving fresh food. He discovered that, far better than salting, smoking, sugar preservation, alcohol marination or vinegar pickling, heating food in a hermetically sealed glass container preserved fruits and vegetables longer and more efficiently. In honor of his discovery, Appert named the process appertization. To this day, this is widely recognized as the best manner of preserving food.
Saving the fruits of your labor is simple with Le Parfait Jars. The orange rubber ring and wire hinge create an airtight seal to prevent unwanted air and moisture from penetrating and keep items such as soups, fruits in syrup, pickles or vegetables as fresh as when they were pulled from the soil or stove.
The jars are also perfect for storing pantry goods, such as coffee, cereal, grains or anything else you want to keep fresh. Alternatively, use them to store leftovers or as a to-go container for your next potluck or picnic.
Glass is durable but is known to chip or crack. Check for such flaws before use. Clean the jars and lids with hot water and soap. Do not use metal or abrasive sponges. After cleaning, rinse the jars and terrines thoroughly with hot water and let air dry. To ensure the airtight seal, use the orange rubber ring only once before replacing with another.
