Leather iPad sleeve made from 100% Horween leather to protect your device from scratches and shattered screens. Each sleeve is vegetable-tanned and hand-cut by a team of artisans in a Chicago studio. (
Protect your iPad from scratches, scuffs and damage with this handmade leather sleeve. To make this sleeve, the leather is first chromium tanned, which makes it supple and durable, and then retanned with vegetable tannins—derived from tree leaves, bark, and other plant material—which allow it to be easily shaped. The sleeve is made of full grain leather, which means it has not been sanded, buffed, or corrected in any way to remove or cover up imperfections. The leather is hand-rubbed with several coats of aniline dye and then hand-glazed. Each sleeve is measured and cut by hand and triple-stitched with industrial-strength thread at each joint point for added strength. Fits iPad 2 or 3, with or without Smart Cover.
Avoid getting the sleeve wet. If this does occur, pat dry right away with a soft cloth. To keep the leather supple and nourished, rub in a protective leather conditioner once or twice a year. You can also use a bit of the leather conditioner and a soft cloth to clean off surface dirt.
The leather for these sleeves is produced by Chicago's Horween Leather Company, founded in 1905 and one of the oldest continuously running tanneries in the US. The leather is selected by the tannery's head grader, who has 40 years of experience working with quality hides. Each case is made by Defy Bags, a Chicago maker with studio space near the tannery. Their small team of skilled artisans carefully sews the sleeves in small batches.
