why this product

Whether you’re picnicking at the park or having a more formal dinner, our enamelware bowls suit both settings. Created in 12 steps under the watchful eye of metalsmiths and enamelware artisans in a workshop in Brazil, the bowl is finished with three coats of enamelware: a protective basecoat enamel, a finishing white enamel and, finally, a color coating. Because it’s made of a metal core and fired glass enamelware, the bowl won’t break (but could sustain chips) if dropped.

use & care

No special care is required for the enamelware, short of avoiding a juggling act that sends the bowls crashing to the floor. The bowls are durable enough for everyday use at any meal, indoors or out. They are suitable for the dishwasher and can be stacked for storage in your cabinets. You can cut your apple or steak directly in the bowl. Over time and with prolonged use, eventual chipping is normal and adds to the unique character of each bowl while still maintaining food safety.

production & design

Ancient societies including the Egyptians, Greeks and Chinese all utilized fired enamelware for food storage, ceremonial pottery, jewelry and weapons. Fired enamelware (also called vitreous enamel or porcelain enamel) is a strong material created by fusing powdered glass to a substrate by firing, usually between 1,382° and 1,562°F (750° and 850°C). The powder melts, flows and then hardens to a smooth, durable vitreous coating on metal, glass or ceramics. Founder and designer Stefania di Petrillo launched her line of enamelware in Italy in 2009. The idea for the company was born when she was working with craftsmen to create a line of furniture in southwestern France. She noticed that everyone in the town had a habit of making their own foie gras and storing the pâté in special glass jars with enameled metal lids. Intrigued by the production process and aesthetic of enamelware, di Petrillo began her line by selling enameled jar lids that are the bowls you see now. Since then, the line has grown to include colorful collections of plates, bowls and a unique, signature collection of enamelware cutlery.
